The Baratza Encore ESP is an electric conical burr grinder that Baratza designed for espresso. It suits beginners who want a straightforward grinder to pair with a machine such as the Breville Bambino or the Gaggia Classic E24. Look elsewhere if you want timed dosing or a single-dose workflow.

Who it is for
- You are building a first espresso setup and need a separate grinder.
- You want simple hopper-turn adjustments instead of a lot of controls.
- You want a grinder that Baratza designed in Seattle and assembles in Taiwan.
Who should skip it
- You want timer-based dosing. The Baratza Sette 270 lists timer dosing in 0.1-second steps.
- You want a stepless dial. The Fellow Opus 2 lists stepless adjustment.
- You work with single doses of beans. The Encore ESP has a 300 g hopper.
Limitations
- Dosing is manual, so you weigh and dose each shot yourself.
- Baratza’s page does not give a total count of grind settings, so we do not state one.
- We have not tested this grinder and have not found enough comparable independent testing to rate retention, consistency or noise, so we do not.
There is also an Encore ESP Pro
Baratza sells a separate Encore ESP Pro (ZCG595) with a flow-control disk, anti-static technology, auto-stop grinding and a 0.1-second timer. This review covers the standard Encore ESP.
Pairing it with a machine
The Encore ESP does not come with an espresso machine. Machines that need a separate grinder include the Bambino Plus and the Gaggia Classic E24. Add the grinder to your budget when you compare setups, as our guide to machines around $500 explains.
